Pension FAQ
Short answers to the most common questions about the old-age pension in the Federation of BiH, under its Pension and Disability Insurance Act. This applies to FBiH only — not to Republika Srpska or Brčko.
Does this apply to all of BiH?
No. This page describes the Federation of BiH (FBiH) only. Republika Srpska and the Brčko District run on different rules — see the Entities page.
When can I retire?
At 65 years with 15 godina of service, or with 40 godina of service alone regardless of age (čl. 40). Details are on the pension age page.
How is the amount calculated?
Personal points (from your earnings and service) are multiplied by the general point — currently 26,34 KM per point. The method is set out on the how the pension is calculated page.
What is the minimum/maximum pension in KM?
The law states a real rule for both (a share of the average pension for the minimum, five times a baseline for the maximum), but the reference figure that would turn either rule into a KM amount was not located in this research pass — so this site does not state a concrete figure for either.
Can I retire early, and is the reduction permanent?
Yes, an exceptional early pension exists, under separate tables for men and women, with a reduction of 0,333333 % per month. Whether that reduction stays permanent or lapses at 65 years, the law, as far as this research found, does not say — in either direction. Details are on the early-retirement page.
