Pension age

The FBiH Pension and Disability Insurance Act (čl. 40) gives three routes to an old-age pension, and all three apply in the Federation of BiH only — Republika Srpska and Brčko run on different rules.

The FBiH Pension and Disability Insurance Act applies in the Federation of BiH only; Republika Srpska and Brčko run on different rules (see the Entities page). čl. 40 states THREE separate routes to an old-age pension, and any one of them is enough.

1. The general age: 65 years

You qualify for an old-age pension at 65 years with at least 15 godina of the narrower "staž osiguranja" (insurance service). čl. 40 also names a broader 20-year "penzijski staž" alternative at the same age — a category that, unlike staž osiguranja, also counts certain non-contributory periods — but this site does not structurally distinguish the two service concepts, so only the narrower, more commonly relevant figure is shown above.

2. Service alone, regardless of age: 40 years

Independent of age, 40 years of pension service on its own qualifies for an old-age pension — whatever your age. This is a third, entirely separate route, the same for men and women.

Gender-neutral, unlike some neighbouring systems

FBiH does not split the age by sex: 65 years applies equally to men and women on the general route. That is a departure from some neighbouring systems, which set a separate (lower) age for women.

This covers the GENERAL old-age pension. For the separate, exceptional early old-age pension, with its own gendered tables — see the early-retirement page.
